Savings that stay visible

A balance view that does not hide holds.

April 15, 2024

Bank customer

The savings tile shows two numbers: Available and Balance. Available is what you can move today. Balance includes holds, pending card posts, and transfers that have not left the queue. If those two numbers differ, tap the tile. Urban lists every line that is making up the gap.

We do not park a hold on a hidden ledger. If a card authorisation is open, it is on that list with the merchant name we received.

Pots and interest

Interest is calculated on the closing available balance, not on money that is still held. The monthly statement shows the rate that applied and the days it covered. Pots inside savings are the same account; moving between pots is not a transfer and does not add a fee.

A pot can be locked until a date you set. Locked funds still appear in Balance. They do not appear in Available.

You get

A CSV of the hold list from the same tile, so a bookkeeper does not have to screenshot the app. Dates on that file match Activity.

Available versus balance

“If Available is lower than Balance, something is held. Open the tile before you try a transfer. The hold list is the reason, not a rounding error.”

Why a deposit is not instantly available

Cheques and some inbound rails credit Balance first and Available later. The hold line names the rail and the weekday it should clear. If that date passes, the line stays visible and we add a note instead of deleting it.

Salary credits that arrive with a reference from a known payer usually clear to Available the same day. Unknown inbound wires can wait for a name check. That wait is on the hold list too.

Open an account from the site if you want this view on a new savings pot. Existing customers add a pot from Accounts without a second application.
